Sacred places are places of power. They are privileged spaces inside a wide, seemingly chaotic world where we meet the Divine and each other to participate in the beauty and abundance of life. They are places that are firmly rooted in this world, yet at the same time they transcend it, becoming spiritually alive and awe inspiring.
The sacred does not care about heritage, religion, culture, or territory. It moves in all things, in relationships between living beings, within flora and fauna, mountains, springs, forests and clouds, and the visible and invisible inhabitants of a place. By communicating with a sacred place, we enhance its sacredness.
Certain sacred places are special. We may never get to visit them. Others are part of our ordinary life, so common that we may have forgotten how extraordinarily sacred they are. Magic was once made here. The healing vibrations of love, wisdom, and medicine still linger. We can absorb those energies, give them off to other living beings, and use them to help the flowers to grow, the rain to come, the trees to bear fruit or a loved one to heal.
And so, we take the journey towards the destination of greater understanding, setting in motion an inner alchemic change and thereby surpassing our fears and limitations. Perhaps, at the end, we’ll arrive at the place where the very air is filled with lightness, and our lives are abundant with love.
